About the site

Normanton is home to our head office and is also the largest of our operational sites where we pack fresh fruit, and salads. Several of our Group support functions are headquartered in Normanton which include Commercial, IT, Finance, People Team and our Planning Teams.

About the role

Reporting to the category technical manager, we are looking for a Specialist – Technologist, focussing on ensuring we deliver the best quality fresh produce to our customers.

Working closely with the ASDA retail team you will define the quality attributes of the produce range. You will ensure finished goods specifications are benchmarked against the competitors, identifying and implementing improvements where required.

You will provide information to our Procurement teams that gives a balanced technical view of supplier’s ability to meet the specification. You will ensure products and suppliers meet all relevant legislative, food safety and quality standards via visits, auditing and quality checks, and where required ensure root cause and preventative actions plans are in place.

You will ensure continuous improvements plans are in place with suppliers. Identifying innovation opportunities to fix repeated quality problems or improve the overall customer experience through better varieties or improvements in the supply chain is key.

You will also provide advice and support to suppliers to ensure knowledge of required product standards and work with supplier on improving their compliance.

This is a Monday - Friday role with working hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Skills and experience required

This role would suit a candidate with a Quality Assurance/Product Manager background looking to further their career in the Technical function and should have relevant qualifications in agriculture, food or science.

With Relevant experience in fresh produce or Horticulture you should have HACCP level 2 and be a BRC Lead Assessor (for Produce & Food role)

With in-depth produce knowledge of specific category your analysis, judgement and concise report writing will be an asset to the role
