Inchture is the second of our potato packing operations, based in Perth, Scotland.

There are a number of support roles on site with the majority of colleagues working within our operation.

About the role

Our Procurement Team have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist - Buyer to join their team.

You will be involved in the BU Procurement Plan helping to ensure we deliver a 52 week planned supply to ASDA working with all the Supply Team based in Scotland and at our other Potato Factory site in Westry, Cambridgeshire. You will work closely with our growers and our factory to ensure the Supply calendar has no surprises on supply or quality.

This role would ideally suit someone with an understanding of Potatoes looking for the next step in their career.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Working within the Inchture Procurement Team ensuring 100% of the Potato Raw Material requirement of the site is fulfilled on a daily basis
  • Organising regular visits to suppliers to sample crops, carrying out Size and Quality Assessments, maintaining a database of the Assessments and identifying /highlighting any quality issues arising.
  • Maintaining a record of Supplier’s stock levels to ensure site has continuous adequate cover.
  • Liaising with the Intake Leader to ensure stocks are kept in balance and trading-on any surplus, as required.
  • Maintaining an accurate record of supplier’s outstanding contract obligations.
  • Analysing the “pack-out” data to prepare and produce Grower Returns
  • Organising grower “Wash –Ups”, as required

Qualifications and Skills


Candidates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate some experience and a proven track record within the Potato sector – either from a trading or productions background.
  • Have a sound understanding of agriculture – farmers, potato growing and farming.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is happy to deal with contacts along the whole supply chain – from grower to customer to hauliers and shippers
  • Demonstrate a high level of competency and confidence in using IT systems, including the Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new programs quickly.
  • Demonstrate sound commercial acumen including negotiating skills; logical decision making and cost awareness
  • Have the ability to work well under pressure, plan and organise workloads to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and a flexible approach to issues.
  • Have a full clean driving licence
  • Business Admin/ Agricultural/Sales experience would be an advantage
