About the site

The majority of our positions are based within our main UK sites but there are also a few roles that require colleagues to operate from Asda’s head office in central Leeds. This supports closer working relationships with the wider business teams at Asda.

About the role

As a Technologist – Wine, you will support the Technical Manager in maintaining the IPL wine technical process ensuring that products sold within this category at ASDA meet all the relevant legislative, food safety and quality standards through key technical Key Performance Indicators, audit systems and quality checks.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Work in conjunction with wine producers, other members of the IPL wine team and the IPL contract bottler to ensure that IPL wine specifications are completed, reviewed and approved in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with wine suppliers to facilitate the correct completion of all technical documents acting as technical liaison between IPL and the wine supplier and ensure closure of non-conformities and corrective actions are in place.
  • Supplier approval and maintaining due diligence control in relation to food safety, legality, quality through management of the wider IPL & ASDA technical systems such as HIVE, authenticate, food experts, responsible sourcing.
  • Work closely with and be able to deputise for the technical manager in their absence.
  • Provide technical advice to the IPL wine team and ASDA retail team.
  • Leading investigations of issues on quality, food safety and customer complaints to ensure root cause is identified and preventative actions are put in place with suppliers and UK contract packer.
  • Complete trending and data analysis of the bulk wine chemical and microbiological data to ensure product quality is maintained.
  • Supporting the beverages quality and food safety system to ensure compliance and to drive improvement.
  • Maintain the administration of the technical systems including audits, complaints and samples.

Please note there will be some travel involved in this role as there will be a requirement to conduct 3rd party audits at their premises.

The hours for this role are 8:30am – 5pm, Monday – Friday.

Skills and experience required

  • Experience within food/beverage manufacturing environment
  • Good knowledge of microbiological and analytical methods and lab testing
  • Degree or equivalent knowledge and experience in a science
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of HACCP or relevant qualification
  • Food Safety Level 2 (minimum)
  • WSET qualification – desirable
  • Qualified in Chemistry, or a related discipline - desirable
