About the site

Sittingbourne is the second largest of our operations where we also pack fresh fruit and vegetables.

Our pack house is in operation 24 hours a day, employing over 500 colleagues. We offer a broad range of roles based at site from Quality Assurance to Site Planners, Warehouse Operatives to Shift Operation Managers. We also have a small of number of support roles to facilitate the day to day running of the operation

About the Role

Due to an expansion within our team, we are currently seeking experienced Multi-skilled shift Engineers to play a key role within the Engineering division at our Fresh Produce site in Sittingbourne. In this position the engineers will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all site equipment in line with department and operational strategy; whilst also ensuring all engineering activity complies with technical legislation.

The successful candidates will have an electrical bias and will be autonomous with a wealth of experience in a similar role. To enable us to deliver customer expectations ensuring machines perform to their optimum level with the least amount of downtime the ideal candidates will also have extensive mechanical and fault finding ability. Shift pattern – 4 on 4 off Days & Nights. 7am – 7pm / 7pm – 7am

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attend breakdowns promptly whilst ensuring reliable and cost effective repairs to a world class standard.

  • Perform high quality root cause analysis for technical and process problems.

  • Support and coach the operational teams in resolving technical issues on the machines.

  • Support, suggest and implement continuous improvement (Safety, Technology, Process and Packing).

  • Make recommendations to maximise the “up-time” of each machine through enhanced cleaning or maintenance schedules.

  • Get involved in project work including installation and commissioning of equipment in line with current regulations.

  • Comply with and strongly advocate relevant H&S, Food Hygiene and Environmental legislation.

  • Work with contractors ensuring adherence to all Company H&S and Food Hygiene standards and regulations. Audit their work using the PTW system to ensure satisfactory completion against objectives.

  • Work in a clean, safe environment at all times. Monitor work area to ensure the workspace is safe and colleagues are following safe working practices. Make clear recommendations to the appropriate manager if improvements can be made.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Electrical qualification with extensive additional mechanical ability/experience

  • PLC Programming/Diagnostic Knowledge

  • Qualified to 17th edition wiring regulations

  • Proven FMCG work experience

  • Work with and install single /three phase electrical circuits

  • Effective communication skills with confidence to challenge and question

  • Flexible and self-motivated

  • Positive attitude to work and a can do attitude

  • Ability to be logical and analytical

Desirable skills/experience:

  • IOSH Certificate

  • Knowledge of VFFM’s and weighing equipment

  • ONC or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical
