About the site

Whittlesey is our purpose built Houseplants and Flowers operation, supplying Asda with their full range of bouquets, potted plants, and succulents.

There are a number of support roles on site with the majority of colleagues working within our operation.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity at our Whittlesey site for a Manager – Commercial Finance to cover a 12 month maternity leave.

From controlling budgets, to leadership and direction of the Commercial finance team, as a Commercial Finance Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the financial performance and end to end forecasting for the House Plants and Flowers Business Units.

Your key responsibilities will include:-

  • Business partnering the senior Commercial owners of the business, including BU Directors. Providing support and challenge of commercial performance of House, Plants & Flowers Business Unit.

  • Leadership and direction of the Commercial finance team to build and establish a business partnering programme of the Commercial Business Unit Category Managers, spanning House Plants & Flowers.

  • Responsibility for the full end to end forecasting for House, Plants & Flowers ensuring reliability and accuracy of the forecast delivered to ASDA forecasting deadlines.

  • Attend regular performance reviews with senior stakeholders across the business to review seasonal reviews, strategic initiative delivery and overall P&L performance

  • Driving consistent and clear reporting on a weekly and monthly basis to the Executive team and the Business units showing true underlying performance vs plan and forecast (including Currency impact, volume changes, Inventory, cost inflation, claims, rebates and waste)

  • Ensuring the existence of consistent, meaningful and challenging targets for inventory levels, cost prices, waste and direct deliveries.

  • Responsible for managing the overhead spend across all Commercial Business Units, Technical and Supply Chain cost centres ensuring adherence to budgets. Forecasting future overhead costs, ensuring all spend is to the benefit of the business.

  • Ensuring the integrity of the Purchase Orders through the weekly management accounts process to ensure accurate profitability. Highlighting risks and opportunities to improve profitability.

  • Through the management of the commercial teams and feedback process ensure that purchase orders are accurately maintained to allow first time match rate in line with company expectations.

  • Has a deep understanding of the accounting system so is a super user for the commercial finance function, able to provide guidance and support for further developments.

  • Responsible for the overall production of monthly management accounts P&L and Balance Sheet for House, Plants & Flowers ensuring accuracy and reliability.

  • Reporting and calculation of the incremental benefit provided by IPL to ASDA through comparison to budget and previous years P&L

  • Ownership of the Commercial annual 3 year plan exercise, annual budget and monthly forecasting processes.

  • Management of the commercial finance team to provide support to the Harvest team to ensure Harvest initiatives are delivered, governance of the program exists, benefit calculation methodologies are agreed, and savings are tracked.

  • Identification and tracking of all Commercial Strategic Initiatives delivered by the business units.

  • Project Management of internal projects to drive change and improvements to the forecasting systems, accounting reporting systems and overall commercial finance function.

  • Develop a team of qualified management accountants and finance analysts, identifying training and development needs and providing an environment for growth.

Skills and Experience Required

  • At least 2 years post qualified experience within an FMCG food business supplying retail.

  • Experience working within a fast moving environment working to tight deadlines.

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA / ACA / ACCA)

  • Strong analytical skills (MS Excel).

  • Strong presentation skills (MS PowerPoint)
