About the site

Whittlesey is our purpose built Houseplants and Flowers operation, supplying Asda with their full range of bouquets, potted plants, and succulents.

There are a number of support roles on site with the majority of colleagues working within our operation.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operations Leader – Nights to join our team at our House Plants and Flowers site in Whittlesey, Peterborough.

Working as part of the Operations Management Team you will not only provide assistance to the Operations Manager to support a continuous improvement culture within the operational business, but you will also be responsible for using our STEP values to mentor and coach colleagues with the aim of creating a “great place to work”.

This role is working Monday to Friday – rotating 7pm to 3.45am/5pm to 1.45am

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for the management of a site based operational team

  • Leading effective 121’s and performance reviews

  • Working closely with the People team to support colleagues within your area in regards to Pay, Employee Relations, Requests for Change and Recruitment

  • Liaising with the Training team to ensure that all colleagues are competent to carry out their roles

  • Ensuring objectives and tasks are cascaded to individuals to meet your Operational objectives and reporting any issues to the Operations Manager

  • Meet targeted Warehouse schedules and ensure machinery, personnel and time are utilised to their full potential

  • Supporting the Operations Manager and Compliance team with their initiatives by ensuring that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are updated, communicated and adhered to within your area

  • Working with the Operations Manager monitoring costs and suggesting improvements which will reduce cost through lean efficiencies, resource planning etc.

  • Ensuring that your area meets all Third Party/Governing Body (BRC, ISO, Food Safety COSH etc.) rules and regulations

  • Observing MHE reliability and resources, reporting any concerns that will delay customer orders being met

  • Developing and monitoring appropriate KPI’s across all areas of responsibility, ensuring these areas are used to improve shift performance.

  • Oversee day to day operations of the facility

  • Provide for site safety and security; ensure site policies and procedures are followed

  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of systems and equipment; monitor fire alarm control panels and other emergency equipment

  • Handle emergencies appropriately according to established procedures; prepare and file accident reports

  • Supervise and evaluate staff including Hygiene Team;

  • Provide positive direction to motivate quality performance; discipline personnel when necessary and appropriate

  • Interview candidates; on-board and train new hires

  • Ensure compliance with company or government regulations; ensure compliance with contracted service level agreements (SLAs);

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience of working within a large, fast-paced warehouse environment  within a leadership position

  • Good working knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures and application within a Warehouse /operations site

  • Proven ability and experience of working in partnership with HR, to lead and coach a diverse team of skilled and unskilled colleagues

  • Experience of developing excellent working relationships with senior stakeholders using a variety of communication methods

  • Experience of working within a targeted environment

  • Experience of driving a safe working culture with instilled root cause analysis

  • IT Literate (Intermediate level)

  • Relevant qualification in IOSH, Audit and degree qualified or relevant experience
