About the site

Whittlesey is our purpose built Houseplants and Flowers operation, supplying Asda with their full range of bouquets, potted plants, and succulents.

There are a number of support roles on site with the majority of colleagues working within our operation.

About the role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Technical Manager to our IPL Team within the Whittlesey site.
In this Technical Manager position you will take full responsibility for all technical aspects of the factory, ensuring that the physical factory and its operation provide for food safety, consistently meet customer and legal requirements, and work towards best practice. 

As the ideal candidate for this Technical Manager role you will have 3 years’ experience in the relevant division supply chain and thrive from being highly organised, self-motivated, forward thinking and have excellent managerial skills. 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Management of ASDA/IPL specifications and communication to the business/supply base ensuring quality goods are delivered to customer.

  • Interaction with QA teams in ASDA depot and IPL packing sites to ensure specifications are correctly implemented.

  • Having an input into decisions within category regarding technical matters such as procurement decisions, the customer message and merchandising to ensure quality and product safety are upheld.

  • Use of customer and depot feedback data to implement improvements at IPL and in the supply base

  • Responsible for ensuring internal compliance is adhered to from a technical standing

  • Contribute to the plan for NPD for the category in terms of variety, process. packaging and supply chain innovation to ensure IPL delivers a point of difference to ASDA and Value for Money

  • Keeping up to date with industry issues and factors that could potentially affect product safety, quality, legality, integrity or availability, and putting actions in place to mitigate the impact on IPL/ASDA products

  • Creation and delivery of plans to encompass sustainability and ethical compliance within the category

  • Acting as expert on category for project work and changes within business from technical perspective

  • Development of team

  • Visit Asda store regularly to monitor store quality and ensure direct suppliers product is to customer expectations – to include cut flowers, houseplants, bulbs, bedding and outdoor trolley deals.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • HACCP Level 3

  • Internal auditor

  • BRC training

  • 3 years’ experience within a similar division/role

  • Logical, evidence led thinking

  • Influencing skills

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Knowledge of the horticulture industry (desirable)
